Born in Hoboken in 1954 and raised in northern New Jersey, Alicia’s exploration into color and design began in 1975 as a Contemporary Arts major at Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she studied drawing, painting and design. After a period in New York working at design showrooms as an assistant buyer, she decided to pursue the study of the fabrics she fell in love with, and enrolled in evening classes at Parsons School of Design, where a new world unfolded. In study there, and later as a freelance textile designer, her love of color, texture and dimension were translated into beautiful prints for a New York Home Furnishing Design Studio.
Marriage and family soon took center stage. As a full time mom, life was filled with the blessings of home and family. Although years of volunteer work as a layout/design artist for various fundraising publications kept her hand in the art world, the most satisfying outlet for her creativity by far was the development of her gardens. As a collector of antique plants as well as garden books from CZ Guest to Monet, the concept of the “painted garden”, or, a painting executed upon nature itself, was the focus of her work and took years to achieve. The writings of Henry David Thoreau have always been an influence on her love of nature and her experience of all the senses in relation to it. “Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain", writes Thoreau. For the artist, that connection to the land was a pivotal stage in her development as a painter.

In 2001, painting again began for her by extensive reading and research, direct observation, studying the works of the Masters and further workshop and classes. It continues today with plein-aire & studio work, and ongoing studies.
Her work has been exhibited in regional and national juried shows. She is currently a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Cape Cod Art Association, and The Art Center of Northern New Jersey. The artist resides in New Jersey with her husband, three daughters, and their dog Jackson. She paints from her studio in Bergen County as well as from her summer home on Cape Cod, MA, overlooking the Bay.
